Welcome to the summer website for

Gentle Community Yoga with Shelley Dungan and The Sacred Center staff. All beach classes are weather permitting so please visit our Facebook page for weather updates, schedule changes etc.

There is no charge to park in the small town lot across from the beach if you arrive shortly before class and leave shortly after class.  Please leave your yoga mat home and just bring a big beach blanket or sheet, hat, sunglasses, sweatshirt, water and maybe a buddy:)

Classes are $10.  Financial Assistance is available for those with need.

I also direct an interfaith yoga & retreat center on the 60 acre campus of St. Mary's Church, 324 East Main Rd, in Portsmouth, called The Sacred Center. I teach there along with 16 other incredible instructors offering sacred movement classes year round.

A prayer I wrote for us...

Creator, Divine source of Love in whom we live and move and have our being… You are beyond our mental comprehension yet felt with the presence of each and every breath we take. Your presence is made known wherever there emerges kindness and compassion. Our intention is to allow your love to soak us and fill us to overflowing, to welcome your unconditional love and acceptance and guidance. By your grace grant that we may feel connected to you, to ourselves, to one another and to our experience of being alive.  Despite our preference for comfort, may we be able to honor both the shadow and light within our human experience. It amazes us that in this moment people and animals everywhere in this world are engaged in the Universal Breath, all breathing in and breathing out as One, the plants are also a part of this Universal Breath as they breathe in our exhalation and breathe out oxygen...providing our next inhalation! One planet breathing together… every moment of every day … surely all is Holy, all are equal, all is Love.

May the angels of light
glisten for us this day.
May the sparks of God’s beauty
dance in the eyes of those we love.
May the universe
be on fire with Presence for us this day.
May the new sun’s rising
grace us with gratitude. …
Let heaven’s winds stir the soil of our soul
and fresh awakenings rise within us.
May the mighty angels of light
glisten in all things this day.
May they summon us to reverence,
may they call us to life.

- John Phillip Newell, Praying with the Earth

The happy heart is one that is filled with gratitude. A simple ritual such as bowing and breathing deeply to greet each day awakens joy in us. Each day, each season, each cycle offers something of beauty. Let us notice and give thanks.

 - Diane Mariechild, Open Mind

Stepping out of the busyness, stopping our endless pursuit of getting somewhere else, is perhaps the most beautiful offering we can make to our spirit.
-Tara Brach

Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself. You may not be perfect, but you are all you’ve got to work with. The process of becoming who you will be begins first with the total acceptance of who you are.

Park in the old "Navy Lot" which is across from the beach where we have class - look for my yoga sign in the dunes on the side of the road next to the boardwalk entrance to the beach.  Note - do not park in the lot where the boat launch is or you will have a long walk to class :)

Please bring a big beach sheet, hat, sunglasses, sweatshirt - no yoga mat
